About Us

The aim of the United Kingdom Youth Parliament is to try and implement change in the problems and issues young people face in day-to-day life. It is young person led and many of the decisions it makes, directly benefits the youth of the UK. The organisation is supported by all of the major political parties including; the Labour Party, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.

UKYP is split into regions and local areas, it's "constituencies". These are the areas where each of the members (MYP's) come from. One such region is the West Midlands, which itself is split into 14 smaller areas. The areas have varying numbers of MYP's, for instance Birmingham has five, whilst Telford and Wrekin has one. This is due to the size of the area.

Each region has its own campaigns and the West Midlands is no exception. Over the next year, MYP's from across the West Midlands will focus on trying to get free or cheaper transport for young people across the region. We also have six priorities which are key issues that will be taken to people with influence for their support.

The regional co-ordinator in the West Midlands is Anna Sterckx. She is the only full-time regional co-ordinator in the country and works tirelessly to make a difference for the young people of the West Midlands. "I feel privileged to be able to work with such enthusiastic and passionate members of the Youth Parliament. I am very excited about the year ahead and all I can say is... Watch this space!"
