vote in your local UKYP election
UKYP elections generally take place between December and February each year in most parts of the UK. The purpose of a UKYP election is to elect a set number of MYPs to represent all young people living in the area. Over the past two years, over 500,000 young people, aged 11-18, have voted in UKYP elections. To find out when and where you can vote, please contact your local youth service or send an email to: elections@ukyouthparliament.org.uk
stand for election
If you are aged 11-18 and want to have a greater involvement with UKYP, then why not consider standing for election? Once elected, MYPs are responsible for representing the views of all young people in their area. Throughout their term of office, MYPs will take part in projects, campaigns and events, put the views of young people forward to decision makers, attend the UKYP Annual Sitting and much, much more! MYPs generally spend between one and five hours per week on UKYP activities. For more information about becoming an MYP, please click here.
support our campaigns
Currently UKYP have three national campaigns, which focus on:
- Reducing the voting age to 16
- Improving sex and relationships education
- Reducing the cost of public transport for young people
There are many things you can do to support our campaigns – sign petitions, complete surveys, send letters, spread the word – all of which are vital to the success of the campaigns. For more information please visit the campaign area of the UKYP website.
debate in our online forums
The UKYP online forums is a space where all young people can gather to discuss the issues which are most important to them. Public transport, anti-social behaviour, climate change, school, bullying – whatever you’re passionate about, there will always be other young people to debate with. Click here to enter the UKYP online forums.
attend a UKYP event
Throughout the year there may be opportunities for any young person (not just MYPs) to attend a UKYP event. If you would be interested in attending an event in your area, please complete this form.
take part in consultations
UKYP are often invited by government departments, businesses and other charities to take part in consultations. These consultations are a great way for young people to get their voices heard and influence decision makers. If you would like to participate in consultations, please register here.
